The Peoria Housing Authority and AFSCME local 34-64 have agreed to a two-year contract after nine months of negotiations. The union represents 25 employees and approved the deal Monday. The contract includes a two-and-half percent wage increase for 2010 and 2011. It also allows for a full vacation day on Christmas Eve. Employees previously received a half day off for the holiday. Meghan Lundeen is the Community Relations and Special Projects Manager for the P-H-A.

LUNDEEN: I think both sides at the table were ready to come to an agreement and ready to move forward. It's better for the agency. It's better for the union, and we're just happy we were able to come to an agreement that's a win-win for both sides.

Local 34-64 filed unfair labor practice charges against the authority in May for unilaterally changing contract language and refusing to provide a final budget to the union. An AFSCME staff representative says the charge accusing the P-H-A of not providing enough budget information during negotiations was resolved.
