Nearly 640 golfers at three area courses took to the tees today/yesterday to raise money for military support programs. The second annual ‘Tee It Up For The Troops’ event took place at Weaver Ridge, Mount Hawley and Arrowhead country clubs. Frank Benningfield is chairman of Tee It Up For the Troops of Central Illinois. He says the event helps make residents aware of the sacrifices of those who serve: BENNINGFIELD: They take for granted the fact that our military is a volunteer organization that gives of themselves the opportunity for us to do the things that we do. And if it’s my intent it’s to at least give the public an awareness of that effort.
Benningfield says 210-thousand-sollars has been raised so far for the event. He says the money will go towards military support organizations including the Wounded Warriors of Central Illinois and the Bob Michel V-A Outpatient Clinic. The event featured a ceremonial plane fly-over and helicopter landing. It also honored family members who lost loved ones during military service.
