Independent Gubernatorial candidate Scott Lee Cohen says he wants to focus on bringing jobs back to Illinois. Cohen is touring the state to hear about various issues concerning voters this week. Cohen was in Peoria Wednesday. He says residents are most worried about the economy. Cohen says Illinois needs to offer more incentives to lure businesses to the state.

COHEN: We need to look at the state of Texas as a model. They're number three in the nation for job growth. The state of Illinois is number 46. Why is that? Because they don't regulate the businesses as much as Illinois does and they are providing the money to bring the businesses to their state.

Cohen says bringing businesses back to Illinois and putting people to work is the best way to raise revenue and help balance the budget. He says he’s against raising any taxes. Cohen says he also wants to implement a zero-based and performance-based budget. That means the budget would be zeroed out every year and departments would have to justify how money is spent. Cohen won the Democratic nomination for Lieutenant Governor this year, but dropped out of the race after allegations of domestic abuse and steroid use surfaced. He later decided to run for Governor as an independent. He’s running against Democratic Governor Pat Quinn and Republican Bill Brady in the November election.
