The Peoria Art Guild is proud to sponsor its 2nd annual Young Artists Show (YAS) at the Art Fair at Junction City this year on June 7 & 8, 2008. YAS was launched last year as a way for us to recognize the fantastic talents of area students. A few changes have been made for this year’s show by scaling down the program and making it better. See submission deadline below.
In contrast to last year, in which YAS was open to middle and high school students, we’ve decided to focus on the talents of middle school students, grades 5-8, of Peoria, Woodford and Tazewell counties. This year any student who would like to enter their artwork into YAS may do so – we’re no longer asking the teachers to choose the submissions. Similar to last year we will be handing out awards in four categories for Best of Show: 1st, 2nd and 3rd Places. This year, however, as part of their prize package, four Young Artists will be invited to The Peoria Art Guild for a day of studio time with an artist – and not just any artist, but a Mentor from our Mentor Apprentice Program (MAP)*. The works these Young Artists create with the Mentor will then be exhibited alongside that of the MAP Apprentices during the annual MAP Exhibition. In addition, they will be featured on the show’s promotional postcard and will be invited, along with their friends and families, to attend the opening reception on August 15 from 5:30-7:30pm.
Again, all students, grades 5-8, from Woodford, Tazewell and Peoria counties are eligible to participate. All students who meet the above criteria are welcome to submit one piece of 2- or 3-dimensional work of any media. All works must be submitted ready to hang (protected with glass or plexi) or install. All entries may be dropped off to The Peoria Art Guild at 203 Harrison Street, downtown Peoria, between May 19th and June 2nd, 2008. For additional information or a submission form, please call the Guild at 309.637.2787 between 10am – 5pm, Monday through Friday.
