WHAT IS DIGITAL RADIO?
WCBU is proud to be a leader in the newest broadcast technology, Digital Radio. With Digital you will be able to get more out of WCBU. The most important change is our ability to multicast. This means that we can broadcast more programs in digital alongside our regular analog signal.
DO I NEED A NEW RADIO?
Yes. If you want to receive the new programming on WCBU2 you will need
an HD Radio receiver. These products are on the market now, and more are
being introduced. You can still hear the main channel with your existing radio just like you always did in the past. Check with local consumer electronics retailers to find the
right product for you. A list of local retailers is at the bottom of the page. When purchasing a receiver, make sure it can pick up the second and third channels offered by digital stations. Some of the early models are not multi-channel capable.

DOES DIGITAL RADIO HAVE A SUBSCRIPTION FEE?
No. Over the air digital radio is free. There are no fees. Once you purchase
your digital radio you can hear not only WCBU2, but new programs on other
digital radio stations.
HOW DO I USE IT?
Discover WCBU2 by turning your new receiver to 89.9 just like you do now.
You will see 89.9-HD1 and 89.9 HD2. The dispay text may vary depending on the manufacturer of the radio. Then, just select the one you would like to
hear.
CAN I GET TEXT INFORMATION ON MY NEW RECEIVER?
Yes. We will provide a variety of information, including the music we are
playing as well as weather, emergency information as necessary or other information.
IS DIGITAL THE SAME AS SATELLITE RADIO?
No. Digital Radio is produced right here in Central Illinois by WCBU staff.
It’s all free, with no monthly subscription fee.
HOW CAN I GET MORE INFORMATION?
Check back oftern for updates on availablity of radios, and new programs
on WCBU2. You can even hear WCBU2 streamed on the internet, just like
our main program channel.
